The Good Various supplements and dietary practices seem to have a pronounced cancer-preventative effect. Of these, many show promise for cancer therapy overall. *

The Not-So-Good
Research, while there is a fair amount of it, is frustratingly shallow when herbs or nutrients are involved. For instance, large doses of Coenzyme Q-10 showed miraculous results in a small studies in 1993-1995 (study1, study2). However, to date no follow-up has been done. One can come to  cynical conclusions about the lack of follow-up to such intriguing data.

Cancer comes in many forms, and the substances listed here usually show positive results for a few cancer types.  Anyone with an interest in this topic should avail themselves of the growing body of knowledge about cancer on the Internet, starting with LEF (see Resources), and focusing on results specific to their cancer type. And as always, work with an sympathetic doctor.

Resources    The Life Extension foundation has an extensive protocol that discusses the various conventional and 'alternative' therapies. This is an excellent place to start research. In fact, no one should consider an anti-cancer regimen prior to serious study of this information.

Useful Nutrients As said, it is important to study the pertinent herb/nutrient research on cancer specific to cancer type. But good places to start are curcumin, maitake D-fraction, co-enzyme Q-10 , and
TOA-free Cat's clawIP-6 (Inositol Hexaphosphate) has also shown good results in trials. Recent research suggests resveratrol (also  near the top of the list for Longevity) is a strong cancer-inhibitor in lab tests. In general, recent research seems to be finding an association between inflammation and cancer, and many nutrients that show positive results are anti-infllammartory (often, COX-2 suppressors).

Cancer Supplements Table The table below summarizes the current research for nutritional and lifestyle effects on cancer, and provides one or more links to key research and related products. As always, this table should be taken only as a general guideline. Anyone embarking on a nutritional/exercise regimen should work with a sympathetic doctor, particularly if medications are also involved.
